The school provides a nurturing, inclusive and highly specialist learning environment, supporting pupils with needs including autism, complex communication difficulties, learning difficulties and behaviours that may challenge.

The role will involve supporting pupils both within the classroom and across the wider school environment, helping them to access learning, develop independence and build positive relationships.

The school also has access to a hydrotherapy pool, and the successful candidate may support pupils during hydrotherapy sessions and other physical, sensory and therapeutic activities.

You may also be required to support pupils with personal care, toileting and changing needs, ensuring that pupils are treated with dignity, respect and compassion at all times.

We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, compassionate and passionate about supporting young people with SEN.

The Role:

  • Supporting secondary-aged pupils with a range of SEN and additional needs.
  • Providing classroom and learning support to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Supporting pupils with communication, social and emotional development.
  • Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and life skills.
  • Supporting pupils with personal care, toileting and changing needs where required.
  • Maintaining pupils' dignity, privacy and wellbeing during personal care routines.
  • Supporting pupils in accessing the hydrotherapy pool and other sensory and physical activities.
  • Following individual pupil support plans, care plans and risk assessments.
  • Supporting pupils who may display behaviours that challenge.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupils to engage with their learning.
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
  • Supporting pupils throughout the wider school environment, including break and lunch times.
  • Creating a safe, calm and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive.

The role is available to start ASAP and will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to develop into a long-term or permanent position for the right candidate.

About You:

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, caring and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEN, ideally within a specialist or secondary setting.
  • Confident supporting pupils with autism, communication needs and learning difficulties.
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with personal care and changing needs.
  • Confident managing and supporting behaviours that challenge.
  • Resilient and able to remain calm and positive in a busy specialist environment.
  • Willing to support pupils with hydrotherapy and physical/sensory activities where required.
  • A strong team player who works well alongside teachers and other professionals.
  • In possession of an Enhanced DBS, or willing to obtain one.
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE Grade 4/C in English and Maths.
  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker or within a specialist setting would be highly beneficial.
