Science Teacher - SEND / SEMH (QTS Not Essential)

Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Salary: MPS 1 - MPS 6
Start: ASAP / Flexible
Setting: Specialist SEMH School

Are you a Science Teacher or experienced Science Tutor looking for smaller classes, more individual support and the opportunity to make a real difference?

NextGen Teachers are recruiting a Science Teacher for a specialist SEMH school in Horsham, West Sussex.

This is an opportunity to deliver engaging, personalised Science lessons in a supportive specialist setting, working with small classes and pupils who benefit from a more individualised approach to learning.

The school supports secondary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside additional learning and behavioural needs.

The Role

  • Teach Science across secondary age groups, including GCSE where appropriate.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual abilities and learning needs.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to support pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Build positive relationships and create a structured, supportive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and other school staff.
  • Contribute to the development of Science resources and curriculum planning.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from:

  • Qualified Science Teachers with QTS, including ECTs.
  • Experienced secondary Science Teachers looking for a change from mainstream education.
  • Science Tutors with strong subject knowledge and relevant teaching experience.
  • Unqualified Teachers with relevant teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Biology, Chemistry or Physics specialists confident teaching secondary Science.

QTS is desirable but not essential. Previous SEMH or SEND experience is an advantage, but not essential for the right candidate.

We're looking for someone with strong Science subject knowledge who is adaptable, proactive and confident building relationships with pupils who may find mainstream education challenging.

What's on Offer?

  • A competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • The opportunity to work in a specialist SEMH setting.
  • A more personalised approach to teaching and learning.
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference to pupils' education and development.
  • Opportunities to contribute to curriculum development and grow professionally.
  • A supportive school environment with a focus on individual pupil progress.

This could be an excellent opportunity for an experienced Science Teacher looking for a new challenge, or a confident Science Tutor ready to move into a school-based role.
