Are you a Psychology or Sociology graduate, or do you have a background in care, childcare or supporting vulnerable individuals? Looking to start a rewarding career in special educational needs (SEN)?

NextGen Teachers is recruiting a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in East Grinstead, supporting children and young people with complex additional needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about helping students develop independence, communication and essential life skills.

The Role

  • Support students with complex SEN needs, focusing on communication, independence and practical life skills rather than purely academic learning.
  • Provide personal care, including support with daily routines and hygiene.
  • Assist students with mobility and physical needs, helping them access activities safely and comfortably.
  • Encourage communication, social interaction and engagement through tailored activities.
  • Work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide consistent, individualised support.

Who Would Suit This Role?

  • Psychology, Sociology or other relevant graduates looking to build a career in specialist education.
  • People with experience in care, healthcare, residential support, childcare or similar settings.
  • Candidates with a background supporting children or adults with additional needs.
  • Individuals who are patient, compassionate and comfortable providing personal care and physical mobility support.
  • People who are keen to learn, develop new skills and make a meaningful difference.

Why Apply?

  • No previous school experience is required, as training and support will be provided.
  • Permanent position with a salary of £24,303 per annum.
  • Excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in specialist SEN education.
  • Develop valuable skills in communication support, personal care, mobility assistance and life-skills development.

If you're looking for a meaningful career where you can help students build confidence, develop independence and reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note: A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as the school is not accessible by public transport. This role also involves personal care and physically supporting students with mobility, so applicants must feel comfortable undertaking these responsibilities.

Huntress does not discriminate on the grounds of age, race, gender, disability, creed or sexual orientation and complies with all relevant UK legislation. PLEASE NOTE! You should make yourself aware of how immigration laws apply to your situation before applying for any jobs. We are acting as a Recruitment Business in relation to this role.
