SEMH Teacher
SEMH Teacher- English Specialist
NextGen Teachers are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEMH school in Barnsley, supporting them in their search for a dedicated and resilient English Specialist Teacher.
This is an initially short-term position, with strong potential to become a more permanent role for the right candidate.
About the School
This specialist provision caters for pupils aged 7-17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school offers a highly supportive, structured environment where pupils are encouraged to re-engage with learning and make positive progress both academically and emotionally.
The Role
- Teaching English to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils
- Many pupils are working below age-related expectations, requiring a flexible, nurturing approach
Lessons will include:
1:1 teaching, Small group sessions of up to 6 pupils- Planning and delivering engaging, accessible English lessons tailored to individual needs
- Building positive relationships and supporting pupils' emotional and behavioural development
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- English specialism is prefered
- Experience working with SEMH pupils, alternative provision, or specialist settings is highly desirable
- Confident in adapting lessons and using differentiated strategies
- Calm, patient, and consistent with strong behaviour management skills
- Passionate about making a real difference to young people's lives
- An enhanced DBS on the update service
- The ability to start ASAP
- The right to work in the UK
- Two professional references
