This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with young people and is confident managing a classroom environment. The role would suit someone with previous experience in a school setting, an aspiring teacher looking to gain valuable classroom experience, or an individual with strong behaviour management and communication skills.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning, ensuring pupils remain engaged and complete the work set by their regular teachers.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising classes of secondary school pupils during teacher absences
  • Delivering pre-planned work and ensuring pupils remain on task
  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Following school policies and procedures to promote high standards of behaviour
  • Supporting pupils with their learning and answering questions where appropriate
  • Ensuring work is completed and providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Maintaining a safe, structured and inclusive classroom environment
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff across different departments

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is confident, adaptable and passionate about supporting young people in education.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils, either in a school or a similar setting
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The confidence to lead a classroom and manage a range of student behaviours
  • A professional, flexible and proactive approach
  • The ability to follow lesson plans and instructions independently
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

A teaching qualification is not essential, making this an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers or experienced education support staff looking to gain further experience in secondary education.

What NextGen Teachers Can Offer

  • Flexible supply work to suit your availability
  • Opportunities to work within a supportive secondary school environment
  • Valuable experience across different subjects and year groups
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated education recruitment consultant
