Location: Leeds

Contract: Temporary to permanent (term time only). Monday to Friday (8:30-3:30)

Salary: £90 - £95 per day (dependant on experience)

About the Role

NextGen Teachers are looking for a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic specialist secondary provision in Leeds, supporting students aged 10 to 18.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping children and young people with special educational needs reach their full potential. The school supports students with a diverse range of needs, including autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and behavioural and/or learning difficulties.

Learning here takes many forms - both formal and informal - giving students the chance to engage with core subjects such as Maths, English, and Science, alongside vocational and life skills lessons like food technology and independence skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learners with a wide range of special educational needs, promoting their academic, social, and emotional development
  • Deliver engaging and accessible learning experiences tailored to individual needs and abilities
  • Work collaboratively within a supportive team that maintains a strong staff-to-learner ratio
  • Use a variety of communication approaches and positive behaviour management techniques
  • Provide compassionate care and support, ensuring each learner's comfort, dignity, and wellbeing
  • Assist learners throughout the day to help them remain comfortable, engaged, and ready to learn

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with learners who have complex SEN needs
  • Patience, empathy, and effective positive behaviour management skills
  • Willingness to support offsite educational experiences
  • A genuine passion for helping learners achieve their potential
  • Understanding of safeguarding practices and accurate record-keeping
  • Team Teach trained (or willingness to complete training)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Minimum of Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science
